Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson's 'Verity' to hit theaters in 2026
What's the story
Amazon MGM Studios has announced the release date for its film adaptation of Colleen Hoover's novel, Verity.
The movie directed by Michael Showalter will release in theaters on May 15, 2026.
The star-studded cast includes Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, Josh Hartnett, Ismael Cruz Cordóva, and Brady Wagner.
The movie's plot revolves around a struggling writer who becomes a ghostwriter for a renowned author. But the simple task turns complicated.
Release strategy
'Verity' will be fresh breath of air amid male-dominated releases
The release of Verity is smartly timed to offer counterprogramming in a month full of male-skewing tentpoles such as Disney/Marvel Studios's Avengers: Doomsday and Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.
This move comes to bring in more diverse audiences and something other than these blockbusters.
With its unique plot and strong female lead, the film may attract viewers looking for something different.

Bestseller
'Verity' novel's success and film adaptation
Hoover's Verity was originally self-published in 2018 and later acquired by Grand Central Publishing in 2021. It has remained on the New York Times Best Sellers list for months and sold over a million copies in the year 2023 alone.
The film adaptation comes on the heels of It Ends With Us, another bestseller by Hoover that was adapted into a Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni starrer.
Meanwhile, Hathaway, Showalter, and Amazon recently collaborated on the hit rom-com The Idea of You.
