Coldplay is 2 albums away from retirement, confirms Chris Martin
In a recent chat with PEOPLE, Coldplay's frontman Chris Martin shared the band's plan to keep their discography to "12 proper albums." He stressed how important this self-imposed limit is, saying it helps maintain high quality in their music. "We are only going to do 12 proper albums, and that's real...less is more. And for some of our critics, even less would be even more," he said.
Martin discussed inspiration and future creative endeavors
Martin also opened up about his songwriting process, admitting he often doesn't know where his ideas come from. He shared a recurring thought he's had for the last four or five years: "You have to finish like this," and he trusts that intuition. As for the future, he hinted at some possible side projects or compilations after their 12th album, saying, "So if we do something together after that creatively beyond touring, then it'll be something different."
Coldplay's upcoming album and tour details unveiled
Coldplay is gearing up to drop their 10th studio album, Moon Music, on Friday, October 4. The band, featuring Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion, will also kick off the Music Of The Spheres World Tour 2025. The tour will start at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on October 30, 2024, and wrap up at Wembley Stadium in London on August 31, 2025.
Martin hinted at life beyond Coldplay's studio albums
Martin further opened up about his decision to stop making albums, saying it was tough to manage people to create a "great" project. He also wanted to give his bandmates some personal time. But don't worry, he assured fans that his musical journey won't end with Coldplay's studio albums. "That will always continue in some way, but there's something about the Coldplay thing," he said, hinting at possible collaborations with his bandmates on different projects after their 12th album.
