Disney surprises with 'Moana 2' sneak peek at CinemaCon
Disney+ recently surprised cinema lovers by unveiling a sneak peek of Moana 2 at the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas. A sequel to the 2016 animated hit Moana was originally planned as a TV series for Disney+ and has been reimagined as a feature film due to the quality of the footage. The film is scheduled for release on November 27.
'Moana 2' preview highlighted new journey, new songs
The preview of Moana 2 showcased during CinemaCon highlighted Moana's triumphant return to her home island of Montunui. The islanders hail her as a hero in the sequel. A snippet of a new song was also featured in the clip, reflecting the islanders' desire to reconnect with their roots and echoing lyrics such as: "The village believes in her, the village believes..."
Lin-Manuel Miranda won't return for 'Moana 2'
Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, known for their work on The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical, are creating new songs for Moana 2. They are collaborating with Opetaia Foa'i and Mark Mancina, who contributed to the original film's soundtrack. However, Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote memorable songs for the first Moana film, will not be part of the sequel.
Dwayne Johnson excitedly introduced 'Moana 2' at CinemaCon
Dwayne Johnson made a surprise appearance at CinemaCon, where he performed a Polynesian dance and introduced the Moana 2 footage. Auli'i Cravalho and Johnson are confirmed to reprise their voice roles in the sequel. The film will be directed by David G Derrick Jr., known for his work on Megamind, Raya and the Last Dragon, and Encanto, replacing Disney veterans John Musker and Ron Clements.

Disney had several other biggies to attract eyes at CinemaCon
Apart from building excitement for Moana 2, Disney gave interesting tidbits about many of its upcoming 2024 and 2025 titles.
