Christina Aguilera signs with 5020 Records after long-standing RCA association
Christina Aguilera, the renowned American singer-songwriter, has officially ended her 26-year-long relationship with RCA Records to join 5020 Records. This news was confirmed by Variety after months of fan speculation that Aguilera had parted ways with RCA. The rumors were fueled when the logo of 5020 Records appeared on her official website, indicating a possible shift in her career trajectory. Here's what awaits her next on her journey.
Aguilera's new home: 5020 Records, a Sony Music subsidiary
A representative from Sony Music confirmed that Aguilera is now under the umbrella of 5020 Records, a new Latin label based in Miami. Despite her departure from RCA, she remains within the Sony Music family as 5020 is a subsidiary of the company. This transition was further substantiated when Aguilera's name was removed from RCA's artist pages, signifying her official exit from the imprint.
Aguilera's remarkable journey with RCA Records
Aguilera's association with RCA began in 1997 when Ron Fair—then the senior vice president at the label—heard her demo tape of Whitney Houston's Run to You. RCA reportedly invested $1M on writers, producers, and voice lessons to groom her. Her debut album Christina Aguilera was released in 1999 and featured chart-topping singles like Genie in a Bottle, What a Girl Wants, and Come on Over Baby (All I Want Is You).
Aguilera's recent projects and Grammy nominations
Throughout her career with RCA, Aguilera released eight studio albums, the most recent one being Liberation in 2018. In 2022, she released two Spanish-language EPs (Extended Plays), La Fuerza and La Tormenta, followed by the full-length Spanish album Aguilera. These projects were released via Sony Latin. The album and its songs received eight Latin Grammy nominations and two Grammy nominations including best Latin pop album.
Aguilera's current endeavors and future prospects
While Aguilera's future plans with 5020 Records remain uncertain, it is expected that she will continue her foray into Latin music given the label's roster. Currently, she is on her second Las Vegas residency with Christina Aguilera at Voltaire, which will resume after a month-long break with a show on May 31. The residency has dates extending to late August, indicating her ongoing commitment to live performances.
