Why Chiranjeevi's 'Vishwambhara' is struggling to seal OTT deal
What's the story
The much-awaited movie, Vishwambhara, starring actor Chiranjeevi, is getting delayed further.
The fantasy drama, slated for a January 10, 2025 release, was pushed to May 9 to avoid a clash with Ram Charan's Game Changer.
Now, a new report by OTTPlay indicates that the new schedule may also be jeopardized due to two major reasons: incomplete VFX work and unresolved negotiations for digital rights.
Mallidi Vassishta has directed the project.
Production hurdles
VFX work and digital rights negotiations
The VFX work for Vishwambhara has also fallen behind as the graphics have been outsourced to multiple companies.
This has led to the delayed post-production.
Additionally, no OTT platform has reportedly secured the film's digital rights yet.
Amazon Prime Video and Netflix had earlier shown interest, but negotiations stalled due to makers' high demands.
Market trend
OTT platforms cautious after 'Bholaa Shankar' underperformance
OTT platforms are reportedly extra cautious about investing heavily in big-budget films featuring superstars like Chiranjeevi, as his movies usually perform better in theaters than on streaming platforms.
This strategic change comes after Chiranjeevi's last movie, Bholaa Shankar, underperformed at the box office.
The negotiations for digital rights are still ongoing, and only time will tell which platform will secure the film.
Upcoming films
Chiranjeevi's future projects
Chiranjeevi is also expected to team up with Anil Ravipudi for a comedy caper. Ravipudi's latest film, Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, has been a hit both in theaters and on ZEE5.
Meanwhile, unverified reports indicate that Vishwambhara may now release in August instead of May 2025.
However, nothing has been officially confirmed about this new release date yet.
