Confirmed! Chiranjeevi's blockbusters 'Indra' and 'JVAS' to have sequels
Producer Ashwini Dutt has announced the much-anticipated sequels to megastar Chiranjeevi's 2002 blockbuster, Indra, and the iconic 1990 socio-fantasy drama, Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari (JVAS). Per multiple reports, the announcement came after a meeting with Chiranjeevi at his residence, where the core team of Indra was present. The team included director B Gopal, writers Paruchuri brothers and Chinni Krishna, and music composer Mani Sharma.
'Season of sequels is currently trending'
During the meeting, music director Sharma suggested that Chiranjeevi should consider making Indra 2. This idea was backed by everyone present, including director B Gopal. Producer Dutt confirmed the sequel, stating, "Yes, I have been planning the JVAS sequel also for quite some time. We should do the Indra sequel as well since the season of sequels is currently trending in the film industry."
Sequel to 'JVAS' has been in the news for years
Dutt further added, "I am now confirming that I will definitely do Indra 2 and JVAS 2." Rumors about a sequel to JVAS have been circulating for several years, with speculations suggesting that Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor might step into the shoes of Chiranjeevi and Sridevi, respectively. It was also rumored that Nag Ashwin would be taking over from veteran director K Raghavendra Rao to direct the JVAS sequel.
'JVAS' set record as highest-grossing Telugu film of its time
Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari, released on May 9, 1990, was a massive box office hit, earning ₹15 crore and setting a record as the highest-grossing Telugu film of its time. The movie won five state Nandi Awards and is considered a classic in the fantasy genre of Telugu cinema. Meanwhile, Indra, collected a gross of over ₹55cr on a budget of ₹10cr and ended up becoming the highest-grossing Telugu film in history at the time.
