F-word muted, violent scene modified: CBFC's changes to 'GOAT'
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has mandated a few changes to the upcoming Tamil film, The Greatest Of All Time (GOAT). The action-packed movie, featuring Thalapathy Vijay in a dual role, is set to be his penultimate project before he transitions into politics. The movie will hit theaters on September 5 and is already projected to be one of Vijay's career's highest-grossers.
CBFC mandates language and scene modifications
The CBFC has directed the filmmakers to mute certain words including Iththa, F_k, Baadu, and Mayiru throughout the film, even in a song, reported Bollywood Hungama. However, the term Mayiru is permitted to be used once. Additionally, the phrase Desa Thandhai was silenced and a two-second visual featuring the word Oththa was replaced with another scene. While Desa Thandhai means "father of the nation," the rest are reportedly cuss words.
CBFC modifies violent scene, removes brand references
The CBFC also ordered the removal of a one-second reaction shot of a woman. The board further demanded modification of a scene depicting neck slitting. References to a specific liquor brand were eliminated and disclaimers about smoking were added whenever characters were shown smoking in the film. These changes were implemented without altering the film's overall duration of 179 minutes (2 hours and 59 minutes).
'GOAT' to release in Tamil and dubbed languages
Following these modifications, CBFC approved GOAT on August 23 with a U/A certificate. The film is scheduled for a cinematic release in both Tamil and other dubbed languages. An IMAX version of the film will also be available. Alongside Vijay, the movie features an ensemble cast including Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Mohan, Jayaram, Sneha, Laila, Ajmal Amir, Meenakshi Chaudhary, and Parvati Nair among others.
