2.5 lakh people sign petition demanding 'GoT' Season 8 remake
Ever since Game of Thrones ran out of its source material, the quality of its writing hasn't been up to the standard set by the books. The latest season has been rated worst on Rotten Tomatoes and has disappointed several fans worldwide. One such fan recently started a Change.org petition to remake the season with competent writers. Here's all you need to know.
Season 8 of the show has received unanimous criticism
The last season of the show has faced severe criticism from the fans who are unhappy with the way writers have treated certain characters. Viewers have voiced their opinions on various aspects of the show including minimal character development, Euron's teleporting ships, various plot holes, Missandei's death, and sudden disappearance/appearance of the Dothraki. The petition calls showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss "woefully incompetent."

Here's what the petition, started by 'Dylan D,' says: "David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on. This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!" The number of supporters keeps on increasing with every second.
A cast member also criticized the show recently
Conleth Hill, who plays Varys in the series, said he was disappointed. His character was killed off in the penultimate episode leaving the actor and fans dissatisfied. He said, "I suppose the last couple [of] seasons weren't my favorite. That's fine [though]. It's the nature of a multi-character show." "It was kind of frustrating, but as a whole, it's been overwhelmingly positive," he added.
Will HBO pay any heed to the petition?
It is highly unlikely that HBO will take any action based on this petition given the magnitude of Game of Thrones. While people are visibly upset with the show, it hasn't stopped them from watching it. Its second-last episode, 'The Bells' attracted 18.4 million viewers on HBO, HBO Go and HBO Now. The show has some passionate fans who take the story very seriously.
The series ends with the upcoming episode
Game of Thrones' last episode will premiere this Monday and can be watched on Hotstar. It will serve as the conclusion to the story and focus on Daenerys Targaryen, now that she has become the Mad Queen. The episode will decide the fates of all GoT characters including Jon Snow, Bran Stark, Ser Davos, Sansa Stark, Tyrion Lannister, and Arya Stark.
