Kangana's 'Emergency' awaits censor certificate, CBFC asks for these changes
Emergency, starring Kangana Ranaut, is facing controversy over its alleged objectionable content. The Shiromani Akali Dal has demanded a ban, claiming it misrepresents the Sikh community. A case was heard in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Saturday, filed by Mohali residents Gurinder Singh and Jagmohan Singh. They sought the revocation of the film's censor certificate issued by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), though CBFC clarified that Emergency has not yet been granted a certificate yet.
'Emergency' yet to receive CBFC certification
Additional Solicitor General of India Satya Pal Jain, representing the CBFC, stated, "The certification of the movie is under consideration. It has not been granted as of now." "It will be granted as per rules and regulations, as applicable in this case. If anyone has any grievance, the same can be sent to the board." The film is slated to be released on September 6.
CBFC suggests modifications in 'Emergency'
The CBFC has reportedly provided a list of suggested modifications to the makers of Emergency, reported Bollywood Hungama. These include the addition of two disclaimers with voiceovers and changes to certain dialogues and terms. The board also sought explanations and submissions of factual information for various scenes in the film, including visuals of violence in the Bangladesh war scene and references to controversial comments by US President Richard Nixon and Winston Churchill about Indians.
Makers submit factual sources for film's content
The makers have submitted factual sources of research and reference for all information presented in Emergency. This includes details on Bangladesh refugees, internal agreements with France, the USA, and Russia, and more. They also provided details of the permission for archival footage of Operation Blue Star used in the film. Moreover, a cuss word was muted since it was used in reference to a leader's demise. The drama is directed by Ranaut and also stars Milind Soman and Shreyas Talpade.
