After a long wait, 'Garfield Movie' is arriving on Netflix!
The wait is over! The highly-anticipated The Garfield Movie, which hit theaters in May, is finally coming to Netflix on Saturday (August 17). Based on the beloved comic strip by Jim Davis, this film marks the sixth installment in the franchise, following a 14-year gap since the last movie, Garfield's Pet Force. The upcoming movie is directed by Mark Dindal, known for his work on Chicken Little and Emperor's New Groove.
Movie's plot and development details
The movie's plot centers around the titular cat, Garfield, who embarks on a heist after reuniting with his father, Vic. The film was announced as a CG animated project by Alcon Entertainment in May 2016. The animation is being handled by DNEG Animation, an award-winning studio that has won BAFTAs and Academy Awards. The film was initially scheduled to be released on February 16 but was delayed for unspecified reasons. It was officially titled The Garfield Movie in September 2023.
Star-studded cast and video game adaptation
The film features a star-studded cast with Chris Pratt voicing Garfield and Samuel L Jackson playing Garfield's estranged biological father, Vic. Other cast members include Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult, Cecily Strong, Harvey Guillen, Brett Goldstein, Bowen Yang, and Janelle James. Snoop Dogg joined the cast as "A Cat."
