Cannes Day-9: 'Monte-Cristo' receives standing ovation, Aditi recreates 'Gajagamini' walk
The 77th Cannes Film Festival is in its last leg now. Day 9 of the festival was marked by standout moments, including a lengthy standing ovation for The Count of Monte-Cristo. The film's lead actor, Pierre Niney, was visibly moved as they received a 12-minute applause from the audience. Another highlight included Aditi Rao Hydari making India proud at the festival.
'The Count of Monte-Cristo' cast and crew details revealed
Directed by Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de La Patellière, the film also stars Anaïs Demoustier, Laurent Lafitte, Anamaria Vartolomei, Bastien Bouillon, Patrick Mille, Vassili Schneider, Julien de Saint Jean, and Pierfrancesco Favino. The French film is based on Alexandre Dumas's namesake novel, which was published in 1844. Niney's performance in particular has been highlighted by the audience's enthusiastic response. It will arrive in French theaters in June.
Rao Hydari revived iconic 'Gajagamini' walk at Cannes
In another highlight of the day, Rao Hydari recreated her iconic Gajagamini walk at the French Rivera. This walk became famous from her role in Heeramandi's soulful song Saiyaan Hato Jaao and has been dominating Instagram Reels ever since the show premiered on Netflix earlier this month. Rao Hydari shared a video of her walk on Instagram with the caption, "Walking into Cannes like (sun emoji, cloud emoji)."
Directors Guild of America's support for Iranian filmmaker Rasoulof
The festival also witnessed support for Iranian filmmaker Mohammad Rasoulof from the Directors Guild of America (DGA). Rasoulof recently fled Iran after receiving an eight-year prison sentence but will attend the festival. DGA President Lesli Linka Glatter expressed solidarity with Rasoulof, stating, "The Directors Guild of America strongly supports Director Mohammad Rasoulof in his flight from unjust sentencing and we stand in solidarity with him as he seeks safe harbor."
