Documentary prompts #FreeBritney campaign again; This is how Spears reacted
Britney Spears is back in news, this time, without even her involvement. Few days back, FX and Hulu released The New York Times documentary, Framing Britney Spears, triggering unprecedented conversation out of concern for the Princess of Pop, who is battling her father over her conservatorship. The impact has also reached celebrities like Sarah Jessica Parker and Tamron Hall, who have voiced support for Spears.
SJP, Khloe Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, other celebrities support the star
Parker, Hall, rapper Rico Nasty, and Meghan McCain tweeted "Free Britney" with and without hashtags, soon after the series premiered, thus strengthening dialogue about Spears. Miley Cyrus also said "We love Britney," while she added Spears' name in the lyrics of her hit song Party in the U.S.A. at her TikTok tailgate performance. Even Khloe Kardashian said she is "praying for queen Britney!"
Parker didn't say much, just posted the powerful hashtag
Here's why Justin Timberlake is getting hatred for the documentary
Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake is getting hatred online as the documentary reveals his much-publicized relationship with Spears, and his radio disclosure (read boasting) of having sex with her. Lending weight to this outcry favoring the Glory singer, McCain retweeted a fan writing, "What is Joe Biden and Kamala Harris's plan to finally make Justin Timberlake pay for his crimes against Janet Jackson and Britney Spears?"
Do note: Spears or family didn't appear in documentary
The documentary also elucidates how media reportage and paparazzi in the 2000s reportedly reeked of misogyny, while narrating the current timeline involving Spears' conservatorship. Lawyers, media commentators and even her former assistant-turned-friend Felicia Culotta featured in the series, but neither Spears' family members nor the star herself appeared. Director Samantha Stark said they had tried "several different ways" of reaching Spears, but failed.
The 39-year-old troubled singer responds with 'Toxic' video tweet
In a veiled reaction, Spears replied to the astounding support by commenting on her performance on Toxic. "Can't believe this performance of Toxic is from 3 years ago !!! I'll always love being on stage .... but I am taking the time to learn and be a normal person ..... I love simply enjoying the basics of every day life !!!!" she wrote.
'Each person has their story, their take on other's stories'
"Each person has their story and their take on other people's stories!!!! We all have so many different bright beautiful lives!!! Remember, no matter what we think we know about a person's life its nothing compared to the actual person living behind lens (sic)," she added.
