Box office collection: Vijay-Mrunal's 'The Family Star' fails Monday test
Vijay Deverakonda and Mrunal Thakur's latest film, The Family Star—directed by Parasuram Petla—is experiencing a slump in box office collections. Released on Friday, the film amassed over ₹11cr during its opening weekend in India. However, it faced a decline on Monday, indicating a struggle to attract audiences. As of now, the total four-day haul in India stands at ₹13.55 crore, reportedly. Here's a breakdown of the collection on Monday.
'The Family Star' grossed ₹1.25cr on Monday
The film experienced a notable decline on its fourth day, dropping from ₹3.1cr on Sunday to an estimated ₹1.25cr the following day, as reported by Sacnilk. On Monday, the movie recorded an overall 16.44% Telugu occupancy and 13.05% Tamil occupancy. Notably, if the movie continues to underperform, it will mark another setback for Deverakonda, who hasn't seen a box office success since his 2018 film Taxi Driver.
'The Family Star': A closer look at the film
TFS—also dubbed in Tamil language—is a romantic comedy that explores the lives of a middle-class family. The film, produced by Dil Raju and Shirish under the Sri Venkateswara Creations, was reportedly made on a modest budget of ₹50cr. It also features Divyansha Kaushik and Ajay Ghosh in key roles. This movie marks the second collaboration between Deverakonda and director Petla, following their 2018 hit Geetha Govindam.
Mixed reviews for 'The Family Star'
Since its release, TFS has received mixed reviews from both audiences and critics alike. Some viewers have praised the performances of Deverakonda and Thakur, as well as the film's depiction of middle-class struggles. However, others have dismissed it as a cliche and failed to connect with the narrative. Despite facing online criticism and negative campaigns against Deverakonda, the film still managed to earn ₹5.75 crore on its opening day.
Meanwhile, Deverakonda's team filed a police complaint against trolls
Recently, Deverakonda's team and the president of his fans' club lodged a complaint with the Cyberabad Police against online trolls. The spokesperson stated on X/Twitter, "A Cyber Crime Complaint has been filed against individuals involved in organized attacks and negative campaigns targeting both the movie and Vijay Deverakonda, (sic)." The complaint alleges that these negative campaigns have adversely affected the box office performance of The Family Star.
