Box office: Kareena-Tabu-Kriti's 'Crew' experiences a dip on Day 11
Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tabu, and Kriti Sanon's heist comedy, Crew has entranced audiences—since its theatrical release on March 29—evident from its box office earnings. In its opening week, the film amassed an impressive ₹43.75cr, followed by a notable surge in collections during the second weekend. Yet Monday (Day 11) saw a significant downturn, signaling potential hurdles ahead. Nevertheless, the film has crossed the coveted ₹60cr milestone.
Why does this story matter?
Directed by Rajesh Krishnan, Crew explores the challenges faced by three flight attendants amid the financial struggles of their failing airline. To navigate their predicament, they venture into a risky gold smuggling operation in a fictional Middle Eastern nation. Notably, Crew's success further solidifies the reputation of producers Ektaa Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor, renowned for their previous collaboration on the hit female-centric comedy Veere Di Wedding (2018). They are currently working on Veere Di Wedding 2.
'Crew's total domestic collection stands at ₹60cr
Following a peak of ₹5.5cr on Sunday, the film experienced a significant drop in collections on Monday, totaling an estimated ₹1.75cr, per Sacnilk. Despite this downturn, the film has achieved a noteworthy milestone with a total domestic collection of ₹60cr. Additionally, Monday's lackluster performance was mirrored in the overall Hindi occupancy rate of just 10.24%. Meanwhile, according to the makers, the film has grossed over ₹104cr worldwide.
'Crew' to face competition from 'BMCM' and 'Maidaan'
Crew stands out in mainstream Hindi cinema as it does not include any male stars in leading roles. Instead, Kapil Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh appear in supporting roles. Going forward, the film is set to face stiff competition as two major Bollywood films, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, and Maidaan featuring Ajay Devgn, are set to hit theaters on Thursday and Wednesday, respectively.
Meanwhile, producers hinted at a potential 'Crew' sequel
In a conversation withVariety, Rhea mentioned that the buzz surrounding Crew is so huge that she is open to considering a sequel. "I really get scared of sequels," she said, adding, "But this is the first film where I finished the film and a week later, my writers have messaged me and told me that they have an idea for the sequel." "This film could make a really fun sequel because the end is open-ended," Rhea added.
