Box office: Akshay-Tiger's 'Bade Miyan Chote Miyan' witnesses sharp decline
The action film Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, starring Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff, has seen a significant drop in its domestic box office collection on the fifth day of its release. According to Sacnilk, the movie's earnings fell to ₹2.5cr on Monday, marking a 72% decrease from Sunday's collection. This sharp decline raises questions regarding the movie's trajectory over the week. Meanwhile, here's a breakdown of the collections.
Why does this story matter?
Released on Thursday, strategically coinciding with Eid festivities, BMCM held promise for a robust performance over the extended weekend. Yet, despite an impressive opening, the film experienced a steady decline in revenue. Compounded by the release of Ajay Devgn's sports drama Maidaan—which garnered praise from both critics and viewers—BMCM found itself grappling with tough competition. Unlike its rival, the movie faced criticism for its uninspired storyline.
Film's performance over extended opening weekend
The film started strong with a ₹15.65cr collection on its first day, but saw a decline on its second day, earning ₹7.6cr. However, it rebounded slightly over the weekend with collections of ₹8.5cr and ₹9.05cr on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Now, by adding an estimated ₹2.5cr on Monday, the total domestic collection stands at ₹43.3cr. Notably, the film recorded an overall 9.92% Hindi occupancy on Monday.
'BMCM' performs better internationally
On the international front, the high-octane drama seems to be faring better. The film is projected to reach the ₹100cr mark in global collections by its fifth day, although final figures are yet to be confirmed. This performance contrasts with the significant dip in domestic box office collections experienced on Monday. Helmed by Ali Abbas Zafar, the film also features Disha Patani, Alaya F, and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
Director Zafar confident despite box office dip
Despite recent box office disappointments for Kumar, Zafar remains confident in his star's ability to attract audiences. In an interview with PTI, he stated that he is bringing Kumar back to the action genre, which his audience loves the most. "The trick is to give the audience the best version of Akshay Kumar as an action star. So, I'm not stressed at all about the movie," he stated.
