Bollywood stars' idle vanity-vans turn saviors for on-duty COVID-19 cops
Vanity vans are reportedly being diverted from the sets of Rohit Shetty's Cirkus, Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi, and Aanand L Rai's Raksha Bandhan. And where are they going? A Samaritan is putting these idle vehicles to good use by arranging them for the cops who are on COVID-19 duty in Mumbai. This comes after COVID-19 forced all Bollywood productions to a halt.
The vans have been stationed at various parts of Mumbai
Reportedly, a Mumbai-based vanity van owner named Ketan Rawal is behind this gesture. He has stationed several of his vans in various parts of the city so that police officers and constables can freshen up and take a break while working in the summer heat.
Rawal had provided women officials with vans last year
According to a report, the number of vans deployed is going to hit 20 soon. Notably, this isn't the first time Rawal has given his vans to the COVID-19 warriors. Last year too, he had provided the vanity vans for "women officials who were on field duty and needed to rest, use washrooms while doing their duties and of course change before going home."
He decided to help after listening to an official's troubles
Rawal recounted that he got the idea while speaking to a woman police official. "She told me that they drink less water as the facility for toilets wasn't present in the area where she had to undertake her duty. That's when I decided to help the force out with my vanity vans," he shared. All the vans are air-conditioned and have three rooms.
After serving frontline warriors, the vans will return to stars
Rawal said that once the vans serve their purpose in the COVID-19 situation, they will be sanitized and taken back to their original duty. The businessman is not only providing the police personnel with relief, but also helping Gujarati theater artists since the pandemic hit the industry badly in 2020. "There are no plays being staged since last year, so I am providing ration."
