Businessman Boby Chemmanur gets bail in Honey Rose's harassment case
What's the story
The Kerala High Court has granted bail to businessman Boby Chemmanur, accused of sexual harassment by Malayalam actor Honey Rose.
The court order will be released by 3:30pm on Tuesday after which Chemmanur will be freed.
Justice PV Kunhikrishnan headed the bench which heard his bail plea.
Despite government's opposition, citing continuous insults and obscene remarks by Chemmanur toward Rose, the court granted him bail.
Evidence scrutiny
Court reviewed evidence, questioned Chemmanur's behavior
The court also looked at evidence, including a video submitted by the prosecution. On watching it, the court asked why Chemmanur was behaving in such a manner.
The defense argued that Rose had no issue at the time of the incident. However, the court opined that Rose may not have reacted during the incident out of respect.
Arrest details
Chemmanur has denied the allegations
Chemmanur was picked up by a special police team from Ernakulam Central Police from his estate in Wayanad. He was later taken to Kochi for formal arrest after interrogation.
Though he requested to go in his own vehicle, he was taken to Kochi in a police jeep.
At the police station, Chemmanur denied any wrongdoing and said his comments had been misinterpreted.
Victim's stance
Rose's statement and assurance from Chief Minister
Last week, Rose said she had spoken with the Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who assured her action would be taken.
"I am living in a state with a government and police that provide me protection, and I am certain that I am in a country where I can feel secure. It is this certainty that has prompted me to fight back," she said.
Earlier, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) extended support to her.
