BJP MLA says Ranya hid gold 'everywhere she has *'
What's the story
BJP MLA from Karnataka, Basangouda Patil Yatnal, has sparked controversy with his lewd remarks on Kannada actor Ranya Rao, who was recently accused in a highly acclaimed gold smuggling case.
Speaking to the media, the Bijapur City MLA, Yatnal said, "She had gold all over her body, hiding it wherever she had a ****, and smuggled it in."
The comment has been noted for its controversial nature.
Accountability
Yatnal vowed to expose ministers involved in the case
Notably, Yatnal has sought stringent action in the gold smuggling case and maintained all the guilty must be punished.
He alleged that state ministers were also involved in the case and vowed to reveal their names in an upcoming Assembly session.
"I have gathered complete information about her relationships, who helped her obtain security (clearance), and how the gold was brought in. I will expose everything in the session, including which **** she hid the gold and brought," he said.
Arrest
Rao's involvement in gold smuggling case
Rao was held on March 3 at Bengaluru Airport with 14kg gold bars hidden in her clothes. A preliminary probe indicated possible collusion with airport staff.
After the arrest, a raid at her home revealed more gold jewelry (worth ₹2.06 crore) and cash (₹2.67 crore).
The case, which has been now taken over by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and others, reveals that Rao traveled to Dubai at least 27 times this year.
Investigation
Rao's stepfather is also under scrutiny in gold smuggling case
Rao's stepfather, Ramachandra Rao—who is currently the Managing Director of the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation—has come under scrutiny in the gold smuggling case.
He was sent on compulsory leave after his stepdaughter's arrest.
Ramachandra has denied any involvement in the case.
Denial
Rao denied allegations and accused officials of assault
Rao has denied the allegations of smuggling over 14kg of gold when she returned from Dubai.
In a letter to the Additional Director General of DRI, she alleged that officials assaulted her and forced her to sign some blank and pre-typed documents.
She claimed she was slapped on the face 10-15 times and was coerced into signing around 50-60 typed papers and 40 blank sheets.
