'Birdman' director offers role to Anurag Kashyap after 'Maharaja' performance

Acclaimed Hollywood director Alejandro González Iñárritu, renowned for hits like Birdman and The Revenant, has reportedly offered Indian filmmaker-actor Anurag Kashyap a role in his upcoming film.
Iñárritu reportedly admired Kashyap's standout performance in the 2024 Tamil action thriller Maharaja, headlined by Vijay Sethupathi.
The news was revealed by Maharaja director Nithilan Swaminathan during an award ceremony in Chennai.
Kashyap's response to Iñárritu's offer remains unknown.

Swaminathan shared news of Iñárritu's offer to Kashyap
Swaminathan revealed the news at Chennai's Galatta Nakshatra Awards.
He said, "I am a huge fan of Anurag sir. Recently, I went to Mumbai to attend his [Kashyap] daughter's wedding."
"At that time, he said that Iñárritu offered him a role in his film only because of Maharaja. When I heard it at first, I didn't know how to react. I felt happy. I love him."

'Maharaja' achieved global success and Netflix record
Maharaja, featuring Sethupathi, Kashyap, and Sachana Namidass in lead roles, has taken the world by storm. Tackling the issues of sexual abuse and violence, the film emerged as a worldwide blockbuster of 2024.
It even set a new record on Netflix as the most-watched Indian movie of 2024.
After its international success, Maharaja was released in Chinese theaters where it grossed over a staggering ₹100 crore.
