'Bigg Boss 13' to go on air on September 29
This week started with some big news from the makers of Bigg Boss 13; they finally announced the date and time of the show. They shared a promo confirming that BB13 will start airing from September 29, 9PM on Colors TV. They also released other promos that revealed that television actors Devoleena Bhattacharjee and Siddharth Shukla are among the first contestants of the show.
Ranveer, Alia won big at 20th edition of IIFA Awards
This was followed by an eventful night in Mumbai as it hosted the 20th edition of International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA). Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt took home the top laurels of the evening for their performances in Padmaavat and Raazi, respectively. Besides, Ayushmann Khurrana's AndhaDhun won two awards in the Best Story and Best Director categories.
When Alia expressed disappointment over shelving of 'Inshallah'
During the event, Alia also got candid about the shelving of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Inshallah opposite Salman Khan. Reportedly, the movie was called-off after Salman walked out owing to creative differences with Bhansali regarding his no-kissing policy. Speaking about it, Alia said that "sometimes things just happen and it's not in your control." She also revealed that she will be working with Bhansali soon.
Deaths of renowned editor Sanjib Datta, filmmaker Shyam Ramsay
Last week, the entertainment industry lost two of its talented members as well - renowned editor Sanjib Datta and filmmaker Shyam Ramsay. According to reports, Sanjib, who is known for his work in Mardaani, Iqbal, Dor, etc, died following a bypass surgery. On the other hand, Shyam, who is the man behind Bollywood cult horror-sleazy movies like Veerna, Purani Haveli, was suffering from pneumonia.
Amitabh Bachchan's 'KBC 11' witnessed a massive jump in TRP
Meanwhile, the week turned out lucky for Amitabh Bachchan's Kaun Banega Crorepati 11. The show, which recently got its first crorepati in IAS aspirant Sanoj Raj, got a huge jump in its TRP last week. In fact, with a significant rise, KBC 11 managed to secure the second slot in the list of top five shows of the week.
Ranveer's 'Gully Boy' became India's official entry to Oscars 2020
It was also a magnificent week for Ranveer. After his big win (for Padmaavat) at the IIFA 2019, his movie Gully Boy was declared India's official entry for the 92nd Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category. Reportedly, the film was picked from among 28 others considered for the Oscars 2020. The ceremony will be held on February 9 next year.
First day collection: 'PPDKP' beat 'Prassthanam', 'The Zoya Factor'
Last week, the box office witnessed the opening of three big releases - Sanjay Dutt's Prassthanam, Sonam Kapoor's The Zoya Factor and Karan Deol's Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas. While all of them opened to average reviews from the audiences, reportedly Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas managed to beat its competitors at the cash registers with a collection of around Rs. 1 crore.
