'Bigg Boss Ultimate': Silambarasan TR replacing Kamal Haasan as host?
On Sunday (February 20), Kamal Haasan announced his decision to quit Bigg Boss Ultimate, the OTT version of Bigg Boss Tamil. Since then, media reports have been suggesting several names who can replace the veteran actor, but Silambarasan TR (aka STR or Simbu) is currently at the forefront of that race. Ramya Krishnan and Sarathkumar are the other names that have been floating around.
Why does this story matter?
Notably, when Haasan had taken a break from hosting Bigg Boss Tamil after contracting COVID-19 last year, STR was rumored to replace him at the time, too. But Haasan's good friend Krishnan had stepped in at that time. So now, if STR indeed becomes the host of Bigg Boss Ultimate, it will mark his small-screen return after years, which his admirers will surely love.
Here's what we know of STR's stint
Multiple reports suggest that STR has been roped in by the showrunners of Bigg Boss Ultimate to host the weekend episodes, but it needs to be seen whether he will be the host for the remaining episodes as well. However, an official confirmation on this is awaited. If these rumors are true, this will be the actor's first stint as a reality show host.
Why did Haasan opt out of show?
To recall, Haasan took to social media on Sunday to inform that he decided to quit Bigg Boss Ultimate mid-way as it was getting "practically impossible" for him to simultaneously work on the show and his upcoming film Vikram. "It would be unfair to make such eminent stars and technicians wait for me, considering their schedule and other commitments that they might already have."
Know all about 'Vikram'
Meanwhile, Lokesh Kanagaraj (Kaithi and Maanagaram) is helming Vikram. Touted to be a gangster drama, it co-stars Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi, and Kalidas Jayaram. Bankrolled by Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International, Vikram is scheduled to hit cinema halls on March 31, 2022. On the other hand, STR's upcoming projects include Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu, Pathu Thala, and director Gokul's Corona Kumar.
