'There's a huge gap'—Bhumi on gender pay disparity in Bollywood
What's the story
Bollywood actor Bhumi Pednekar recently spoke about gender pay disparity in the industry.
Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, she emphasized that this issue isn't limited to cinema but exists in all industries.
She said, "Yeh na actually cinema ki problem nahi hai, across sectors ki problem hai."
"Agar aap ek CEO ko bhi dekh le of any large conglomerate, if she's a woman unki salary kaam hi hogi."
Personal account
Pednekar shared personal experience of pay disparity
Pednekar shared her own experiences with pay disparity in Bollywood.
"If I talk specifically about cinema, there's definitely a huge gap."
"Many times, we say that the actor who brings in more business... and that's absolutely right."
"I've been at places where I have achieved as much as a male co-star and yet I have been paid way less."
"But I feel that as more producers are coming in who genuinely believe in equality, I can see the gap bridging."
Film performance
Pednekar's latest film underperformed at the box office
Pednekar is currently seen in Mere Husband Ki Biwi, a romantic comedy directed by Mudassar Aziz.
The film, which also stars Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh, hit theaters on Friday but opened to a disappointing ₹1.50 crore at the domestic box office.
Despite mixed to positive reviews from critics (especially for its comedy), the film's box office performance has been underwhelming so far.
