Beyoncé postpones 'big announcement' amid catastrophic LA wildfires
What's the story
The raging California wildfires have led American singer and pop legend Beyoncé to postpone a "big announcement."
The 43-year-old musician, who had earlier teased revealing something big on Tuesday (January 14), has now decided to push it back in light of the "devastation" caused by the fires.
She made the announcement in an Instagram post where she prayed for those affected and lauded the efforts of first responders.
Beyoncé's statement
'We are so blessed to have brave first responders...'
In her post, Beyoncé wrote, "The January 14th announcement will be postponed to a later date due to the devastation caused by the ongoing wildfires around areas of Los Angeles."
"I continue to pray for healing and rebuilding for the families suffering from trauma and loss. We are so blessed to have brave first responders who continue to work tirelessly to protect the Los Angeles community."
Charity efforts
BeyGood Foundation aids wildfire victims
Meanwhile, Beyoncé's BeyGood Foundation has also donated $2.5 million to Los Angeles relief efforts.
The foundation recently launched the LA Fire Relief Fund, which will help families in the Altadena/Pasadena area who lost their homes and help churches and community centers meet the immediate needs of those affected by the wildfires.
Other celebrities like Eva Longoria, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Paris Hilton have also made significant donations toward relief efforts.
Industry disruption
Wildfires impact Hollywood and music industry
The California wildfires have not just affected people but also halted major events in Hollywood and the music industry.
The Critics Choice Awards, Producers Guild Awards nominations, and even the Oscars nominations announcement have been postponed amid the massive fires.
Now, rock band Nine Inch Nails has also pushed their tour announcement in the wake of the ongoing crisis.
Losses incurred
Wildfires claimed lives and destroyed properties
The wildfires have claimed at least 24 lives thus far, including British-born former child star Rory Sykes.
Several properties have been destroyed, including the homes of Hollywood stars such as Mel Gibson, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, Billy Crystal, Jamie Chung, and Bryan Greenberg.
Last week, Beyoncé's mother Tina Knowles revealed that her Malibu bungalow was also among the properties lost to the fires.
