#ComicBytes: Five best superhero sidekicks in the Marvel Universe
Even the best of heroes need a support system in the form of sidekicks. Comic books have featured a number of impressive sidekicks over the years. This is especially true in DC Comics' case (there's a Boy Wonder as well as a Toy Wonder there) but Marvel has had some great sidekicks as well. Read on to know five of the best ones.
Iron Man's best friend is also his trusted sidekick
James "Rhodey" Rhodes and Tony Stark share a number of relationships. They are friends, confidants, Tony is Rhodey's employer, and Rhodey is the best sidekick someone like Tony could ask for. Rhodey started as Tony's pilot and eventually received his own armor, thereby becoming "War Machine." It works because Tony Stark needs Rhodey to keep him stable and Rhodey needs a mentor.
A decades-old friendship that is still going strong
Bucky Barnes was probably the first sidekick in the Marvel Universe. He met Captain America during WWII and together, they stopped villains like Red Skull and Baron Zemo. Bucky's death was a major shock to the Captain but he returned after some decades as the villainous Winter Soldier. It was a roller-coaster ride until Bucky subsequently took up the mantle of Captain America.
Everyone needs a friend like him
Matt Murdock met Foggy Nelson in college and protected him from bullies. They eventually started their own law firm and sometimes worked pro-bono for people in need. Foggy is one of the few people who know that Matt is Daredevil and has successfully kept this secret. While his sidekick isn't much help to Daredevil during active combat, he does help Matt with the firm.
Which hero is the sidekick in this pair?
Groot is an anthropomorphic tree and Rocket Raccoon is, well, a raccoon. The two form a very unlikely pair where they come to each other's aid as members of Guardians of the Galaxy. As shown in Avengers: Infinity War, teen Groot considers Rocket his father. It is impossible to determine the sidekick in this symbiotic pair because the two are poles apart, yet similar.
The best sidekick in the Marvel Universe
Have you heard of Rick Jones? This prolific sidekick has been associated with various well-known superheroes including Hulk, Captain America, and Captain Marvel. In fact, Bruce Banner was exposed to gamma radiation and became The Hulk because of Jones! With Captain America, he was "Bucky" and with Captain Marvel, he found his calling- being a superhero. He also served Rom The Space Knight.
