Sir Ben Kingsley is an English actor born on December 31, 1943. He began his career in theater before venturing into the world of films, and his first film role came in 1972 with the thriller film ‘Fear is the Key’. He is best known for portraying the role of Mohandas Gandhi in Richard Attenborough’s 1982 biographical film ‘Gandhi’, which also won him the Academy Award for Best Actor, BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama. His role of Itzhak Stern in Steven Spielberg’s ‘Schindler's List’ (1993) earned Kingsley a nomination for the BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Some of his notable roles were in ‘Shutter Island’, 'Iron Man 3’, 'Ender’s Game’, and ’Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’, among others. In 2002, Kingsley was appointed Knight Bachelor for his contributions to the British film industry. In 2013, he was conferred with the Britannia Award for Worldwide Contribution to Filmed Entertainment.
