Planning to watch 'Stree 2'? Revisit 'Stree's storyline first
The much-anticipated sequel to the 2018 horror-comedy blockbuster, Stree, is set to hit theaters on Independence Day (August 15). Stree 2 will see the return of Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao in their respective roles. The original film, directed by Amar Kaushik, was a massive hit earning nearly ₹200cr worldwide. Now, huge expectations surround the sequel as well. But before heading to theaters, it's worth getting a quick recap of Stree.
What was 'Stree' all about?
Stree is a horror-comedy set in a small Indian town gripped by fear of a mysterious entity known as "Stree." Legend has it that this ghostly woman emerges during a specific festival, abducting men who dare to look back at her haunting call. Unlike traditional horror villains, Stree is a complex character, portrayed with a surprising vulnerability. Rather than a mindless monster, she is depicted as a tragic figure, "starved for love."

Stree ended on an intriguing note, raising questions about Kapoor's character—who is she? Where does she come from? What secrets is she hiding? These questions will likely be answered in the second part. Stree is also perceived as a feminist film because of female characters enjoying agency, stepping out at night, and limiting men to their homes, thus putting a different spin on conventional horror films.
'Stree 2' introduces new villain, retains original cast
The sequel to Stree introduces a new antagonist named Sarkata, who threatens to abduct all the women in the village. The film's protagonist, Vicky (Rao), evolves into the prince of Chanderi, vowing to protect his love and the village's women. The film will also feature a special appearance by Varun Dhawan and a cameo by Tamannaah Bhatia. The original cast including Kapoor, Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee will reprise their roles in the sequel.
'There's a possibility of 'Stree' 3, 4, 5...': Director Kaushik
In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Kaushik hinted at the possibility of more sequels to Stree. "There's story still left to be told, and characters left to be explored. A call will be taken after the film's [Stree 2] release. There is a possibility of Stree 3, Stree 4 and Stree 5," he said. Meanwhile, Stree 2 is set to compete with Akshay Kumar's Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham's Vedaa at the box office.
