Barbara Joan Gordon is a fictional superhero character appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. The character was created by TV producer William Dozier, writer Gardner Fox, editor Julius Schwartz, and artist Carmine Infantino. Gordon made her first comic book appearance as Batgirl in 1967 in 'Detective Comics' #359 that was titled 'The Million Dollar Debut of Batgirl!'. She is the daughter of Gotham City Police Commissioner James Gordon and is initially hired as head of the Gotham City Public Library. She prominently featured in the 'Batman Family' series, which debuted in 1975, and partnered with Dick Grayson, the original Robin. She helps superheroes by providing them with intelligence and computer hacking services. She made her first appearance as Oracle in ‘Suicide Squad’ #23 (1989) and soon turned a featured lead of the ‘Birds of Prey’ series. The character was a leading comic book figure in the Silver Age of Comic Books, thanks to her regular appearances in the 'Batman' television series.
