Bappi Lahiri's funeral to be held on Thursday. Details inside
Leaving the entire nation in a state of shock, legendary music composer Bappi Lahiri left for his heavenly abode on Tuesday. At 69, he passed away at a hospital in Mumbai. Political leaders, actors, singers, and other celebrities took to social media to pay their respects to the Disco King of Bollywood. And, according to his family, his funeral will be held on Thursday.
Family would wait for Lahiri's son, Bappa's, return from US
Upon his passing, the family members of the playback singer sent out a statement. "It's a deeply sad moment for us. Our beloved Bappi da has left for heavenly abode last midnight. The cremation will take place on the arrival of Bappa (his son) from Los Angeles tomorrow mid-morning," it said. He is survived by his wife Chitrani, children Bappa and Rema.
Kajol, Tanuja, Alka Yagnik, Abhijeet Bhattacharya visited Lahiri's house
To pay respect to the genius composer, various stars made their way to Lahiri's abode in Mumbai. Actor Kajol, her mother-actor Tanuja, and her relative Sharbani Mukherjee were spotted entering the house. Notably, the Mukherjees are related to Lahiri's family. Singers and colleagues Alka Yagnik, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Shaan, along with filmmaker-actor Rakesh Roshan, actors Moushumi Chatterjee, and Biswajit Chatterjee had also paid a visit.
He was undergoing treatment at hospital for nearly a month
According to the doctors treating Lahiri, "he had multiple health issues" and had been admitted to the hospital for a month. However, the veteran composer had been discharged on Monday, after which his health again deteriorated on Tuesday. "He was brought to the hospital...He died due to OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) shortly before midnight," Dr. Deepak Namjoshi, Director, CritiCare hospital told PTI.
PM Modi said, 'Bappi Lahiri ji's music was all-encompassing'
As soon as the grave news surfaced, noted figures expressed their condolences online. Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote: "Shri Bappi Lahiri ji's music was all-encompassing, beautifully expressing diverse emotions. People across generations could relate to his works." Similar messages came from various other ministers and leaders. Artists of Hindi, Bengali, and other regional film industries also mourned the loss on social media.

To note, Lahiri's demise comes just 10 days after Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar's death. Lahiri used to consider Mangeshkar like his mother and their families were quite close. In added grief, Bengali singer Sandhya Mukherjee (90) died in a Kolkata hospital, also on Tuesday.
