Alokesh "Bappi" Lahiri is an Indian music composer, singer, record producer, and politician born on November 27, 1952. He helped popularize the usage of synthesized disco music in Indian cinema and also lent voice to some of his compositions. He also composed several songs for Prosenjit Chatterjee. In fact, the duo created several box office successes such as 'Asha O Bhalobasha', 'Aamar Tumi', 'Amar Prem', 'Priya', 'Badnam', 'Mandira', 'Amar Sangi', and 'Raktelekha', among others. He rose to popularity with his filmi soundtracks in the 1980s and 1990s for films like 'Sharaabi', 'Wardat', 'Disco Dancer', 'Namak Halaal', 'Dance Dance', 'Gang Leader', 'Commando', 'Sailaab', and 'Saheb'. He also contested the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections from West Bengal's Srerampur constituency but lost to Trinamool Congress's candidate Kalyan Banerjee. Later, in 2016, he dubbed for the first time, voicing the animated character, Tamatoa, in the Hindi-dubbed version of Disney's 3D computer-animated fantasy adventure movie 'Moana'. In 2018, at the 63rd Filmfare Awards, Lahiri was honored with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award.
