Bangladeshi film producer, actor-son killed in mob violence
Selim Khan, a prominent Bangladeshi film producer, and his actor-son Shanto Khan were brutally killed by a mob during civil unrest in Bangladesh on Monday. The incident took place in the Chandpur region of Chattogram following the announcement of Sheikh Hasina's resignation as Prime Minister. Selim had backed a biopic of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, considered a founding father of Bangladesh. The father-son duo was reportedly attempting to escape their village when they were caught and killed.
Duo killed while trying to escape village
According to The Daily Star, a Bangladeshi portal, Selim and Shanto initially managed to flee their village and reach the Farakkabad area. Sheikh Mohsin Alam, officer-in-charge at Chandpur Sadar Police Station, confirmed, "Some people tried to stop them (but) they managed to flee by opening fire. When they reached the nearby Bagarabazaar area, an angry mob caught and killed them."
Film fraternity mourns the loss
The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the film industry. Kaushani Mukhopadhyay, who co-starred with Shanto in the Bangladeshi film Piya Re, expressed her disbelief at his death. Tollywood actor Jeet also shared his views on X (formerly Twitter), praying for the people of Bangladesh during this challenging time. Bengali superstar Dev, a close friend of both Selim and Shanto, reminisced about his experiences with the people of Bangladesh on Facebook.
