BAFTA Awards 2025: Most memorable moments
What's the story
The British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) 2025, which took place on Sunday night, were nothing but memorable, leaving a lasting impression on the viewers.
From host David Tennant's hilarious pre-recorded segment with actors Brian Cox, James McAvoy, Camila Cabello, and Colman Domingo, to the winners' speeches, this year's ceremony was a treat to watch.
Let's take a look at some of the most unforgettable moments from the event.
Hosting
Tennant's jokes that were removed from BAFTA broadcast
Tennant returned as host for the second consecutive year, kicking off the ceremony with an energetic performance of the Proclaimers' iconic track, I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles).
His opening monologue covered a range of topics, from A Complete Unknown to The Apprentice, where he quipped, "I've said Donald Trump's name three times—it's like Beetlejuice, I'm worried I might summon him."
BBC edited out Trump's jokes, citing time constraints.
Presenting highlights
Selena Gomez's near-miss and Jesse Eisenberg's tribute
While presenting the award for debut by a British writer, director, or producer, Selena Gomez almost had a presenting gaffe.
She struggled to pronounce the name of writer-director Rich Peppiatt but saved herself from embarrassment by simply saying his nickname "Kneecap."
In another memorable moment, Jesse Eisenberg kicked off his win for Best Screenplay for A Real Pain with his trademark self-deprecating humor, joking that neither he, his wife, nor the person sitting next to him expected him to win.
Award speeches
Zoe Saldana's emotional speech and Jeff Goldblum's tribute
Zoe Saldana, who won the Best Supporting Actress BAFTA for Emilia Perez, gave an emotional and powerful acceptance speech. She humorously acknowledged her struggle with a British accent and passionately advocated for her film.
"Voices need to be heard, just not my English accent. Bye, guys," she added.
In another poignant moment, Jeff Goldblum played As Time Goes By on the piano during the In Memoriam segment, adding a touch of solemnity to the ceremony.
Fellowship award
Warwick Davis's acceptance speech and Mikey Madison's win
Accepting the BAFTA Fellowship, British actor and TV host, Warwick Davis humorously promised to keep his speech "short." He also paid an emotional tribute to his late wife, acknowledging her support throughout his career.
In a surprising turn of events, Mikey Madison won Best Actress for Anora despite not expecting it. She delivered a thoughtful speech paying tribute to her director, producer, co-stars, mother, and the sex worker community.
