Badshah claims AR Rahman apologized for criticizing 'Humma Humma' remix
Rapper Badshah, who has made a name for himself remixing popular 1990s songs, recently revealed that music maestro AR Rahman had apologized to him for first criticizing his rendition of Humma Humma. The remixed version was made for the 2017 film OK Jaanu. Despite facing initial backlash from listeners and Rahman himself, Badshah claimed that the composer later expressed regret over his harsh comments.
Badshah's vision for 'Humma Humma' remix
In a chat with Radio Nasha, Badshah revealed his creative process for the Humma Humma remix. He said, "With Humma Humma, I knew exactly what I wanted to do and that's the best part." "When you know exactly how you can flip a song, how you can turn it into a Badshah song but not taking away from the original song's soul," he added.
'I am sorry. It took me time to realize...'
The rapper further shared that he received a "lot of flak" for Humma Humma, including from Rahman—the original composer and singer. However, at an event, Rahman apologized to him saying, "I am sorry. It took me time to realize it's a good song." Badshah described this as the biggest validation he wasn't looking for but got nonetheless. Notably, the song was originally featured in Mani Ratnam's romantic drama Bombay (1995).
Rahman's initial hesitation over 'Humma Humma' remake
In a 2017 interview with Hindustan Times, Rahman had said he was initially not too keen on the idea of a remake. "I wasn't happy with the idea, initially. I was really hesitant about it at the start," he had said. However, he warmed up to it after hearing the first four bars of the song by Tanishk Bagchi and found it appealing and different.
