'Badass Ravi Kumar' vs 'Loveyapa': Which film will dominate BO
What's the story
The box office is in for an exciting clash this Friday with the release of Himesh Reshammiya's comeback film, Badass Ravi Kumar, and Junaid Khan-Khushi Kapoor's Loveyapa.
Early estimates indicate Reshammiya's 1980s-style entertainer may trump the romantic comedy starring Aamir Khan's elder son and Sridevi's younger daughter.
Trade expert Taran Adarsh predicts an opening of ₹5 crore for Badass Ravi Kumar, saying it "will be a big surprise for a lot of people."
Ticket sales
'Badass Ravi Kumar' leads in advance ticket sales
As of 10:00am on Thursday, Badass Ravi Kumar had reportedly sold 16,300 tickets at national chains, far ahead of Loveyapa's 1,500.
Trade expert Sumit Kadel, echoing Adarsh's sentiments, predicted Advait Chandan's Loveyapa would open between ₹70 lakh-₹1.5 crore while Badass Ravi Kumar could surprise with an opening of ₹5-7 crore.
He told Times Now, "It will be a blockbuster start for a Himesh Reshammiya starrer."
Audience interest
What's driving audience interest in 'Badass Ravi Kumar?'
Adarsh credited the strong lead of Badass Ravi Kumar to its successful trailer and songs.
He said, "There's ample curiosity to watch the film. Plus Himesh Reshammiya. It is more of a spoof and with the '80s style of dialogues, people are loving it."
"Himesh has prepared the audience in advance that he's going to offer unabashed '80s entertainment. That is going to take the lead."
Remake reception
Remake factor and audience reception of 'Loveyapa'
Loveyapa is a Hindi remake of the Tamil film Love Today.
Adarsh said, "The audience is tired of remakes. The original films are available on streaming platforms. I don't endorse remakes because I feel people know what to expect."
However, Kadel gave Loveyapa a glimmer of hope saying the original Tamil film hasn't been widely seen in North India.
Meanwhile, the tragi-romance re-release of Sanam Teri Kasam might defeat both new releases; it has already sold over 20,000 tickets.
