'Badass Ravi Kumar': Kirti Kulhari reveals Himesh Reshammiya's no-nonsense rule
What's the story
Kirti Kulhari, who is known for her serious roles, recently surprised fans with her appearance in Himesh Reshammiya's spoof action thriller, Badass Ravi Kumar.
In a recent interview with News18 Showsha, she accepted the surprise and said even she was taken aback when approached for the film.
She also revealed Reshammiya had a clear vision for the film and didn't entertain any suggestions to alter anything.
Career concerns
Kulhari's initial reservations about 'Badass Ravi Kumar'
Kulhari confessed to having reservations before signing the film.
She said, "Of course, I wondered what the film would do for my career and if my audience would like it." However, she took up the role as a challenge to her self-perception as an actor.
"I want to bring a shock value with the things I do and that's just the trip I'm on," she added.
Condition applied
'I'll have to do things his way or not do...'
Recalling a condition set by Reshammiya during the film's making, Kulhari shared she wanted to tweak some dialogues—adding, removing, or altering lines—but Reshammiya refused.
"It was almost like take it or leave it. He made it clear that if I say yes to the film, I'll have to do things his way or not do the film at all."
She added, "He was like, 'Don't mess with what we have. This is what it is.' I wasn't offended."
Perspective shift
'Badass Ravi Kumar' changed Kulhari's perspective on commercial films
Kulhari admitted to having judged commercial Hindi films in the past, but her experience with Badass Ravi Kumar changed her outlook.
She said, "Earlier, I used to look down upon the world of commercial, mainstream Bollywood. I would totally judge these films because they're so different from how I see cinema."
"The film added more groundedness and humility to me because I realized who I am to judge things. Now, I don't take myself so seriously."
