'Bachchhan Paandey' trailer: A ferocious killer and his violent ways
Akshay Kumar will color our Holi this year in Bachchhan Paandey style! His gangster film is set to release in cinema halls on March 18 and before that, makers have launched its trailer on Friday. In a role we haven't seen Kumar play before, we get a ferocious killer who murders everyone and anyone just for the sake of it. Here's a trailer breakdown.
Budding filmmaker decides to make real-life gangster's biopic
The 3:42-minute clip begins with aspiring filmmaker Myra Devekar (Kriti Sanon) deciding to make a biopic on living gangster Bachchhan Paandey (Kumar) of Bhagwa. Her friend Vishu (Arshad Warsi) warns her of the threats going near Paandey can welcome but helps her make this breakthrough movie anyway. They decide to approach members of Paandey's circle to gain information on him. But things go astray.
Filmmaking begins, but can the gangster be trusted?
Devekar's efforts to develop a script on the one-eyed goon land her up in a weird documentary set-up with the gangsters telling her how many people they have killed. However, this filmmaking journey doesn't go smoothly as Devekar and Vishu realize they aren't safe in Paandey's den as he would not bat an eye before killing them. What happens next makes up the tale.

Interestingly, we get pure evil protagonist here
Apart from the plot, director Farhad Samji gives a Western movie vibe to the aura of Paandey—who nonchalantly plucks out his stone eye in one scene. Jacqueline Fernandez is introduced as Paandey's girlfriend Sophie, while Pankaj Tripathi plays his guru, Bhaves Sir. Interestingly, the protagonist isn't given any soft, humanizing angle and he's portrayed as a pure baddie. This approach is novel in Bollywood.
Concept is novel but offensive brand of comedy isn't
The Hindi adaptation of the 2014 Tamil film Jigarthanda, Bachchhan Paandey seems to have a lot of new aspects in store as far as mainstream dark comedy Bollywood films are concerned. What doesn't change is the colorist, naive jokes we see in Hindi movies. Backed by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Production, Bachchhan Paandey will be Kumar's first 2022 venture. Let's see if it works out.
