Baahubali 2 turns out to be a goldmine
Baahubali 2: The Conclusion is set to release across theatres in India on 28th April. However, whether the movie lives up to its expectations or not won't really be a matter of concern for the filmmakers and the investors as the film has already raised amounts in excess of the basic investment.
Baahubali 2 turns profitable before release
Baahubali 2 cost a massive Rs. 250 crore to make. The first part of the movie had earned over Rs. 500 crore worldwide, but Baahubali 2 looks poised to cross that threshold. Arka Mediaworks, the producer for Baahubali 2, has already recovered Rs. 250 crore from selling distribution rights across India. It has also made an additional Rs. 100 crore for overseas rights sales.
Breaking records
Baahubali 2: The Conclusion will be released in a record 6,500 film theatres across India in four languages - Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. The previous record for maximum screen count for a big-ticket Bollywood release was 4,500 theaters.
Money keeps pouring in
Having already turned profitable, the movie raised a further Rs. 78 crore from satellite television rights sales. Furthermore, the Baahubali team also partnered with Graphic India to take the movie beyond the screen into orginal graphic novels, animation, merchandise and video games, and these ventures are expected to raise another Rs. 10 crore.
Prospects upon release
Baahubali 2's impressive pre-release performance might be dwarfed by the money it makes after release. With no major releases lined up at the time of the movie's release, it is expected that the movie will make over Rs. 100 crore on its very first day. Everything considered, the sky is the limit for the movie right now.
