Ayushmann rejects 'Border 2' role, and we understand his reason
Ayushmann Khurrana, a prominent Bollywood actor, has reportedly declined a role in the sequel to the 1997 war film Border. The actor was considering playing a soldier in Border 2, but ultimately decided against it due to concerns about his positioning within the ensemble cast. A source quoted by Mid-Day revealed that Khurrana felt unsure of his place in an ensemble led by Sunny Deol, an established star. This decision has sparked industry discussions about actors' roles in ensemble films.
'Border 2' announcement sparked industry discussions
In June 2024, Deol announced the sequel to the cult classic Border on social media, marking the film's 27th anniversary. The original film, directed by JP Dutta, depicted the Battle of Longewala during the India-Pakistan war of 1971 and won acclaim for its narrative and performances. The sequel, Border 2, will be directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta.
Diljit Dosanjh rumored for role in 'Border 2'
Following Khurrana's exit from Border 2, rumors have begun to circulate about potential replacements. Punjabi actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh has reportedly been approached for a role in the film. While no official confirmation has been made, a source stated, "It will be a treat to see Diljit and Sunny together on screen, given their strong audience base in north India." The film is slated to begin shooting in November 2024.
'Border 2' continues legacy of cult classic
The original Border film, directed by Dutta, is a cult classic that featured Deol, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, and Akshaye Khanna. It was celebrated for its powerful narrative, performances, and beautiful musical score. The sequel Border 2, set in the same setting as the Battle of Longewala, aims to continue this legacy.
