'Awarapan,' 'Aashiqui 2' set to hit theaters again
What's the story
Actor Salil Acharya has confirmed the re-release of two popular films: Awarapan (2007) and Aashiqui 2 (2013).
The announcement came during a recent interview with HM Digital Reviews at the Matrix Fight Night (MFN) 16 event. This follows a successful trend of re-releasing cult films that initially underperformed at the box office.
"The re-release trend is working well, and it's great," Acharya reportedly stated.
Anticipation
Acharya expressed excitement over 'Awarapan' re-release
Acharya, who was a part of the Awarapan cast, couldn't contain his excitement for the film's re-release. He remembered shooting with Emraan Hashmi and Ashutosh Rana almost 17 years ago as "incredible."
Although it didn't do huge business back then, he stressed that people loved the film a lot.
"At that time, Himesh Reshammiya's Aap Ka Surroor, Apne, and Die Hard 4.0 were released on the same day."
Filming experience
Acharya also discussed his challenging scene in 'Awarapan'
Acharya also shared a behind-the-scenes anecdote from Awarapan. He revealed that he had to shoot his death sequence in one take because the outdoor light was fading. He called the film "physically demanding."
The actor is hopeful about the re-release, saying, "I hope this time, people come to watch the film."
Awarapan, directed by Mohit Suri, was based on a story by Mahesh Bhatt. The film is an uncredited remake of the South Korean movie A Bittersweet Life.
Second re-release
'Aashiqui 2' also set for re-release, following initial success
Along with Awarapan, Acharya also confirmed that Aashiqui 2 is being re-released. Unlike Awarapan, this film was a massive blockbuster when it was released in 2013.
The actor shared his conversation with Suri, the director of both films, who told him: "Aapki dono filmein re-release ho rahi hai (Both your films are being re-released)."
The re-release dates of the aforementioned films have not yet been confirmed.
