Box office: 'Auron Mein....' marks Ajay's lowest opening in 15yrs
The romantic drama Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, directed by Neeraj Pandey and featuring Ajay Devgn and Tabu, has had a disastrous start at the Indian box office. Industry tracker Sacnilk's early estimates indicate that the film grossed a mere ₹2 crore on its opening day, which is shocking since the movie is led by two A-listers. Per Indian Express, it is Devgn's weakest opener since his 2009 film All The Best, which debuted with ₹1.82 crore.
'Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha's comparison with Devgn's other releases
The film's opening day collection falls short when compared to Devgn's other two releases this year, Maidaan and Shaitaan, which earned ₹7.25 crore and ₹15.21 crore respectively. Interestingly, the film also had a weaker opening than Akshay Kumar's Sarfira, which grossed ₹2.4 crore at the box office. Notably, Auron Mein clashed with Janhvi Kapoor-Roshan Mathew's Ulajh on Friday. On its opening day, the film had an overall occupancy of just 9.16%, with most viewers attending the night show.
Negative reviews have contributed to the film's downfall
Upon its release, Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha was met with negative reviews, casting doubt on its ability to recover over the weekend. The film's release had no significant impact on the Hollywood film Deadpool & Wolverine, which earned ₹4.25 crore on its second Friday. This figure surpasses the combined earnings of Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha and another Ulajh. Auron... also stars Shantanu Maheshwari and Saiee Manjrekar and will stream on Amazon Prime Video post its theatrical run.
