Now, a case against Papon in Guwahati for kissing minor
Singer Papon has been on the receiving end ever since his video of kissing a minor girl surfaced online. After a complaint was filed against him in New Delhi, the singer has found himself in another legal mess. A case has been registered against Papon in Guwahati, the capital of his home state. Here's more.
Trouble in the home state
The action by Assam Police came after they received a letter from State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) in Assam. "The place of occurrence of the incident is out of state. However, as per the SCPCR letter, we have registered a case under section 10 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act," said Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Hiren Nath.
However, the locals have come out in Papon's support
Meanwhile, the 'Moh Moh Ke Dhaage' singer has found support from the people of his state. "We are supporting Papon da. He is a nice person and we don't think he had any bad intention behind the incident. It's a pure act of affection for a disciple and nothing else. However, a section is trying to malign his image," echoed a group of supporters.
Accused of sexual assault
It was on Friday that a video of his applying colors on the contestant's and then kissing her invited trouble for him. Angarag Mahanta, popularly known as Papon, denied the sexual assault charges, saying that it was his way of showing affection to the girl he was mentoring on the show. But, later he quit as the judge of the show.
