Ashley Judd files a defamation suit against Harvey Weinstein
Actress Ashley Judd, who was one of the first women to speak up against Harvey Weinstein's sexual misconduct, has now sued the disgraced producer for damaging her career. In her lawsuit, Judd stated that after she refused Weinstein's sexual advances, he made false statements about her to director Peter Jackson, which cost her the chance to star in the 'Lord Of The Rings' trilogy.
Judd approached Los Angeles Superior Court
As per Judd's complaint, Weinstein used his power to damage her reputation after she rejected him. "With those baseless smears, Weinstein succeeded in blacklisting Ms. Judd and destroying her ability to work on what became a multi-billion-dollar franchise with 17 Academy Award wins and many more nominations," it read. Judd has also accused him of sexual harassment and violation of the California Unfair Competition Law.
Jackson lends some weight to Judd's claims
"I recall Miramax telling us that they (Judd and fellow actress Mira Sorvino) were a nightmare to work with and we should avoid them at all costs. Hence, we did not cast them in 'Lord Of The Rings'," said Jackson.
Weinstein came under the scanner last year
Weinstein has been facing the heat after several young actresses accused him of demanding sexual favors. They alleged that Weinstein forced them to massage him and watch him naked. The matter became a subject of debate in the showbiz globally with actors and filmmakers putting forth their viewpoints regarding the same.
