Controversial actress Rakhi Sawant feels that a life sentence is not enough for self-styled godman Asaram, who was on Wednesday found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl at his ashram in Rajasthan in 2013. She stated that Asaram deserved a death sentence for the heinous crime. However, Rakhi said she is happy that at least he has been convicted and punished.

Reacting on Asaram's conviction, Rakhi said, "I'm very happy that Asaram has been punished. It sets a very good example for all potential sexual offenders in the country, especially those who think they are rich and powerful enough to get away with it." "But why not the death sentence in this case? The girl is a minor. No bail, no life for child rapists."

Rakhi supports her point with a strong reasoning. She says, "When a respected figure like an uncle or a spiritual guru misbehaves with an innocent girl she is robbed of something far more valuable than her virginity. She loses trust in mankind."
Asaram was convicted of raping a minor girl
A Jodhpur court held Asaram guilty of rape and sentenced him to life imprisonment. In August 2013, a 16-year-old UP girl, a student of a school run by Asaram's trust in Chhindwara (MP), accused him of sexually assaulting her at his Jodhpur ashram. Two others were also convicted while another two were acquitted.
