Biography of esteemed Marathi actor Bal Gandharva translated to Hindi
The Hindi translation of renowned Marathi theater actor and singer Bal Gandharva's biography was recently launched at Rabindra Bhawan in New Delhi. Titled "Bal Gandharva", the book published by Rajkamal Prakashan, celebrates the life and times of Narayan Shripad Rajhans, who was given the moniker of "Bal Gandharv" by Bal Gangadhar Tilak, after the freedom fighter heard him sing.
Had a beautiful experience writing the biography: Author
The Marathi original "Asa Ha Bal Gandharva" by Abhiram Bhadkamkar, has been translated into Hindi by Gorakh Thorat, a professor at Sir Parashurambhau College in Pune. Bhadkamkar said, "There are many such aspects of this novel on which Marathi society does not want to talk about. I experienced such a beautiful forest of talent while writing this biography."

"Translating 'Bal Gandharava' into Hindi is a historic step. We should also look forward to see this book being translated into other languages," Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, President of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, said at the launch.
Bal Gandharva was famous for his female roles
Bal Gandharva, who was best known for his roles as female characters in Marathi plays (since women were not allowed to act on stage during his time), won the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1955. "He was born in theater and he had spent his whole life on stage," Bhadkamkar said. Bhadkamkar also happens to be the scriptwriter of biographical Marathi movie "Balgandharva".
