'Have a basic idea': AR Murugadoss hints at 'Ghajini 2'
What's the story
Acclaimed director AR Murugadoss, who impressed Bollywood with the Hindi remake of his Tamil movie Ghajini, has dropped hints for a sequel.
The original 2005 Tamil film, featuring Suriya, was a box-office winner and paved the way for the cult classic 2008 Hindi version, headlined by Aamir Khan.
The film also starred Asin, Sunil Grover, and Pradeep Rawat.
Director's statement
Murugadoss shared his vision for 'Ghajini 2'
Recently, Murugadoss told PTI, "There is a possibility for Ghajini 2. We have something in mind and we will sit and discuss."
"If everything goes well, we can do it. I have a basic idea, not a full script. If it is made, it will be made both in Tamil and Hindi as well."
To recall, Ghajini revolved around Sanjay, a businessman with anterograde amnesia seeking revenge on the man who killed his fiancee, Kalpana.
Filmmaking insights
Murugadoss discussed the potential of sequels and prequels
Murugadoss, also known for the likes of Darbar, Thuppakki, Kaththi and Spyder, revealed his thoughts on sequels/prequels.
He said, "In Hollywood films, even if the character dies, they will recreate it. Besides, there's always a possibility of a prequel."
"In Ghajini, we built a character, who has memory loss and is a super-rich guy. So, we can play with that. It's an interesting character," he added.
Upcoming projects
Murugadoss's collaboration with Salman Khan
Murugadoss is now waiting for the release of his upcoming Hindi film Sikandar, with Salman Khan. Interestingly, he had once almost worked with another Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, a few years ago.
"During Ghajini time, I met Shah Rukh and I narrated an idea to him. It is the same idea, Madharasi. At the time I had just narrated the idea. I wrote the full script only now," Murugadoss shared.
New collaboration
Murugadoss's upcoming movie with Sivakarthikeyan
Murugadoss later adapted the story and took it to Sivakarthikeyan for the lead role in Madharasi.
"I developed the script, and then I went to Sivakarthikeyan. I've worked with him before in Maan Karate, which I produced. He is a good actor and it has been a great experience working with him," he said.
His upcoming film Sikandar will hit theaters on March 30 on the occasion of Eid.
