Sofia Coppola-Bill Murray team up again for Apple movie
Sofia Coppola and Bill Murray collaborated first, almost 15 years ago, for the film Lost in Translation, that won an Oscar for best original screenplay. Now the acclaimed Sofia, daughter of legendary Hollywood director, Francis Ford Coppola, is teaming up again with the veteran actor Murray for a new film titled On the Rocks. The movie is being made for Apple. Here, we report.
Father-daughter story will start filming this spring
The film is also going to star Rashida Jones of The Office fame. The plot will show a young mother who tries her best to reconnect with her father who has a larger than life persona and is a playboy. Presumably, this figure will be played by the talented Murray. The adventure is set in New York and will be filmed this spring.
Murray and Coppola's collaboration had been very fruitful
For those unaware, the last time Murray and Coppola collaborated on Lost in Translation, Murray was nominated for best actor, Coppola for best director and the film overall got nominated for best picture at the 2004 Oscars. It managed to win best original screenplay, as we mentioned. Hopefully, their latest collaboration for On the Rocks will be as successful, if not more.
Movie deals with Apple, which plans to launch streaming service
The movie is being made by indie studio A24 (which made Moonlight) and Apple. The deal was announced in November and will see the studio make multiple pictures for Apple. Notably, Apple plans to become a streamer soon. On the Rocks marks the giant's first notable announcement about their future film plans surrounding the content on their yet unreleased streaming platform.
Bill Murray has a busy schedule ahead
Murray who is famous for roles in movies like Rushmore, The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, has a busy year ahead of him. The veteran will appear in Zombieland sequel, Wes Anderson's The French Dispatch and Jim Jarmusch's The Dead Don't Die.
