Next up for Anubhav Sinha: A superhero movie!
Acclaimed filmmaker Anubhav Sinha has revealed that his next project will be a superhero film. In an exclusive interview with Filmfare, Sinha reportedly shared, "I am working on an interesting superhero. Action and music have been calling me for a while now." This surprising announcement comes on the heels of the release of his recent project, Netflix series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack.
Sinha's latest work 'IC 814' has come under fire
Sinha's IC 814—which dramatizes the real-life 1999 hijacking—has been the subject of controversy since its release. The series has been accused of "whitewashing" the events—particularly in its portrayal of the hijackers with Hindu names - 'Bhola' and 'Shankar.' In reality, the five hijackers involved in the incident were identified as Ibrahim Athar, Shahid Akhtar Sayed, Sunny Ahmed Qazi, Zahoor Mistry, and Shakir. However, writer Neelesh Misra defended this choice by explaining that the hijackers used false names during the incident.
Government summoned Netflix India head over controversy
The series features a star-studded cast including Vijay Varma, Dia Mirza, Pankaj Kapur, Naseeruddin Shah, and Devas Dixit. The show is based on the book Flight Into Fear: The Captain's Story by Devi Sharan, who was the flight's captain, and journalist Srinjoy Chowdhury. In the latest update, the Indian government reportedly summoned the content head of Netflix India, Monika Shergill, over the controversy surrounding the web series.
