Renowned Tamil actor Arulmani, known for his performances in Azhagi, Thendral, and Thandavakkone, passed away on Thursday due to a cardiac arrest. He was 65. The news of his sudden demise has left the Tamil film industry and political circles in shock. At the time of his death, Arulmani was actively involved in a political campaign for his preferred Lok Sabha party, the AIADMK.
Arulmani's last moments and medical intervention
The Singam actor had been maintaining a hectic schedule due to his deep involvement in the political campaign. On Thursday, after returning home, he suffered a cardiac arrest. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Chennai where despite the best efforts of medical professionals, he did not respond to treatment and passed away later that night.
Outpouring of grief and condolences on social media
The news of Arulmani's death has triggered a wave of grief among fans, friends, and colleagues who have been sharing their condolences on social media. A recent photograph of a smiling and seemingly healthy Arulmani at a political event has gone viral following the announcement of his death. His funeral was reported to have taken place on Friday.
Disturbing trend of heart attacks among Tamil actors
Arulmani's death marks the third instance within a month of a Tamil actor succumbing to a heart attack. Late last month, Seshu of Lollu Sabha fame breathed his last at 60, while renowned actor Daniel Balaji (48) lost his life to a massive heart attack. This alarming trend has sparked an outcry from netizens urging those in high-stress professions, particularly film stars, to prioritize their health. Separately, the fraternity recently lost actors Visheshwara Rao and RM Veerappan, too.
Why are heart-related ailments and deaths increasing among young people?
For the last few years, there have been many cases of heart attacks and cardiac arrest-caused deaths in the showbiz industry. Be it Sidharth Shukla (40) succumbing to a heart attack in 2021 or the ever-fit Sushmita Sen revealing she had to undergo an angioplasty due to a heart attack in 2023. Doctors say while heart ailments can be genetic, poor lifestyle choices, obesity, substance abuse, or intense physical strain can also become factors behind coronary artery disease.
