'Animal': Why Ranbir Kapoor's long shooting schedule worried Bobby Deol
Bollywood actor Bobby Deol, who played the villain Abrar Haque in the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal, recently revealed his initial hesitation to accept the role. The actor also shared his fears during the long wait to start filming for the movie. Despite these challenges, Deol's portrayal of Haque has been widely appreciated by fans and critics alike. The movie also starred Anil Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna and is now streaming on Netflix.
Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga approached Deol for 'Animal'
In an interview with Humans of Bombay, Deol revealed that it was director Sandeep Reddy Vanga who first approached him for the role. "He showed me a photo of myself from when I participated in the Celebrity Cricket League and said, 'I want to cast you because I love this expression of yours,'" Deol said.
Deol feared he might not be needed for 'Animal'
Deol also shared his concerns during the long wait to start filming for Animal. "I waited 1.5 years to shoot the film. The film is 3.5 hours long, so they were shooting with Ranbir for a long time, and during that period, I kept thinking, 'Are they going to change their mind? Will they suddenly say they don't need me?' Those thoughts crossed my mind." He also described Kapoor as "amazing" and "down-to-earth."
Deol was unsure about playing a mute character
Deol admitted that he was initially unsure about playing a mute character, as he considered his voice to be his strength. However, he decided to take on the challenge. "I wanted to do something out of my comfort zone. When Sandeep told me that my character would be mute, I thought, 'But my voice is my strength,' yet I still decided to go for it."
Deol couldn't celebrate 'Animal' success due to personal loss
Despite the success of Animal, Deol revealed that he couldn't fully celebrate due to the death of his mother-in-law. "My brother Sunny kept saying we should celebrate, but my mother-in-law passed away at that time." "I believe it was her blessings that brought me this kind of love. She was special to me, and I lost her three months before the film came out."
