Anil Kapoor reveals why he turned down 'Chandni' opposite Sridevi
Anil Kapoor, the veteran star, recently revealed why he turned down the role in 'Chandni'. The movie starred Sridevi and his role eventually went to Rishi Kapoor. The 'Mr. India' star said that he turned down the movie because he didn't want to sit in a wheelchair. Kapoor explained that a real accident, which had left him bedridden, was the reason behind his decision.
An accident changed Kapoor's perspective
Kapoor explained his mindset which led him to turn down the role. He had been in an accident which left him nursing his leg for two-and-a-half months. The star described it as a turning point in his life. Speaking of how his frame of mind changed, Kapoor said that he became more conscious of the roles he did after the accident.
'Chandni' went on to become one of the biggest movies
Interestingly, 'Chandni' became one of the best Indian movies of all time. Yash Chopra's heroine-centric romantic musical set Sridevi up as one of the greatest stars. Even more importantly it marked the resurgence of the romantic-musical genre and the end of the violent film era in India. Critically and commercially acclaimed, 'Chandni' remains an evergreen movie.
What could have been and nevermore shall be
'Chandni' which was Sridevi's first project with Yash Chopra could have been another milestone for the Anil-Sridevi duo. The couple shared amazing screen-chemistry and appeared for the first time in 'Karma'. However, their most iconic performance remain 'Mr. India' and 'Lamhe'. Their last movie together was 'Judaai'. Sridevi's untimely death earlier this year shocked the Kapoor family and her fans worldwide.
