What else do we know of the project?
Going by locations seen in the shared images, the film's title Thar refers to the Thar desert in Rajasthan. While Shaikh is the only character donning traditional Rajasthani clothing, Sr. Kapoor can be seen in a police officer's outfit. Also starring Satish Kaushik, the movie has been written and directed by Raj Singh Chaudhary, who is debuting as a director with this one.
Western noir-inspired film to follow this plotline
Reports suggest makers will go Western noir with their story set in the 1980s. Thar will revolve around Siddharth (Harsh Varrdhan), who shifts to Pushkar for a job and then embarks on a journey to avenge his past. "Will he succeed or does Pushkar have something else to offer him?" read the film's tagline. Kashyap and Chaudhary have written the film and its dialogues.
'This genre...is a first for Indian cinema and audiences'
Thar will mark the first collaboration of the real-life father and son pair after they played themselves in AK vs AK. Speaking about the project, Kapoor said, "The genre, a noir thriller set in Rajasthan that pays tribute to the genre of the classic Western is a first for Indian cinema and audiences." He is backing the venture under Anil Kapoor Film Company (AKFC).
Film's team has many newcomers aboard
Chaudhary isn't the only newcomer on the team. Shreya Dev Dube, director of photography, and music composer Ajay Jayanthi are also debuting with Thar. It is slated to hit Netflix this summer, meaning April or May. This is the first collaboration between AKFC and Netflix.
